Lt. Keith Golding said the man reported on Monday that he had made arrangements to meet with a potential buyer in Trumbull to sell the 2006 Yamaha YZ450 motorcycle.
The seller said he and the buyer agreed to meet in Rocky Hill Terrace so he could look over the bike and make a decision whether to buy it or not.
When the two met at the prearranged location, the buyer asked to take the motorcycle for a test ride. The seller agreed to the test ride without obtaining any information or collateral from the buyer beforehand. The prospective buyer then left on the vehicle and never returned, Golding said.
Craigslist is an online website that is commonly used to connect buyers and sellers through the internet, using a minimal exchange of identification.
Trumbull Police are warning area residents to use caution with such websites since several similar thefts have occurred recently when these sales meetings were arranged at public locations.
